Is female sexual dysfunction common?
Yes, it is more common than we realize because this issue is private for many people. In the United States, approximately 40% of women complain of sexual issues. 21% have pain with sex.
How can it impact my relationship?
It is easy to become withdrawn physically if we experience pain or discomfort with sex. Becoming physically withdrawn does not just mean physically with sex. We can be withdrawn even from the simplest touch of endearment just to avoid eventual sexual as well as physical intimacy. Even though the women is avoiding physical intimacy because the act of sex causes discomfort as well as pain, many partners may feel neglected and rejected. Obviously, this situation can cause significant strain on a relationship especially when we are all busy juggling our jobs and family.
Why do I feel alone?
It is normal to feel like you are the only one. Even though it affects a significant percentage of the population, female sexual health is rarely mentioned. This may be due to cultural as well as societal factors, for most sexual concerns have been focused on our male counterparts. REMEMBER, YOU ARE NOT ALONE.
